About John Donovan

I am currently the communication team lead within the Division of Viral Hepatitis at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and have over 15 years of experience leading marketing and communications connected to effectively translating complex ideas and concepts into something evocative, impactful, and actionable. All of this is informed by communications science and my own personal experiences. I grew up splitting my time between a trailer park in Lancaster County and rowhouse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and it gave me an appreciation for the unique assets, culture, and values that exist throughout this country. It also made me realize the overlap in what makes us human and how we ultimately wish to find the best way to care for ourselves and our loved ones, even if how we define that can sometimes differ. Through my work, I hope to empower all Americans in pursuing healthy behaviors and overall well-being, with an emphasis on unique drivers as well as those values that unite all people. In doing so, I've always believed in the power of partnerships and creative communications that tap into emotions while hewing closely to the evidence in order to look at challenges (and solutions) differently.
