I saw the need to bring the records and data for Treadwell Library Access Services from boxes of papers into a database (Microsoft Access), so I offered to my supervisor (Assistant Director of Treadwell Library) to create a Microsoft Access database with a user interface (buttons, forms, reports, etc.) such that no other staff member needed to know anything about Microsoft Access to use the database. The result was nearly paperless data storage and usage and instant access to data so that any of the others in access services could update a doctor, nurse, research, medical student, etc. at Massachusetts General Hospital on the status of a requested article, chapter, book or other media that we had ordered from another library or institution via Interlibrary Loan.
