Background

About John Dyer

John M. Dyer served as Cox Enterprises' immediate past President and Chief Executive Officer for four years. A 40-year Cox veteran, Dyer was responsible for the company and its three major subsidiaries: Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group, as well as the Cox Family Office and corporate functions including financial operations, human resources and administration. John joined the company in 1977, spending most of his career in increasingly expansive financial and operational roles to help build Cox Communications into the third-largest cable provider in the nation. During his 40 years at Cox, he led the company's financial planning, managed its commercial services and cable advertising divisions, and integrated $10 billion in cable operations into the company’s western and central regions. As Cox Enterprises’ Chief Operating Officer and prior to that, as the company’s Chief Financial Officer, John realigned the company’s executive management team, strengthened the company’s balance sheet and oversaw more than $3 billion in acquisitions and investments. On January 1, 2014 John became President and CEO of Cox Enterprises. Under his leadership, Cox Enterprises formed Cox Automotive, the world’s largest wholesale automotive company, to bring together the company’s 25 leading automotive brands, including Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book. In the fall of 2015, Cox Automotive acquired Dealertrack Technologies, Inc. in an all-cash transaction for $4 billion, the largest in the company’s history. John serves as chairman of the Marcus Autism Center Board of Trustees and is a member of the Georgia State University Foundation Board of Trustees, Atlanta Committee for Progress Board of Directors, the Carter Center Board of Councilors and a member of the Board of Trustees at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. He has served on Cox Enterprises' board of directors since December 2012.
