About John Dyer

I have only ever worked for the two organisations. Two highly successful and large Financial institutions. I am very loyal, but I do deliver. I have worked for 20 years on Executive and Business Leadership teams and been a CFO for 12 years. So, I know finance and I know business. I know how to prepare statutory Accounting reports. How to deliver financial information to Boards, to Executive, to Business units. I know that the reporting needs to be timely and accurate; it needs to be informative and it needs to speak the truth. I know strategy, its planning, and its execution. I know that simplicity in vision and strategy enhance the chance of success, that complexity can be a killer. That execution is the key, no matter how good the strategy. I know to be successful business needs to take risk; and then manage that risk as best it can. I know there are many stakeholders in a business. That doing the right thing by all is inevitably the best outcome. I know collaboration and teamwork are critical. I know hard work usually brings success. I know and have experienced many tough times in business, requiring focus, perseverance, dedication, and the reward that comes from that. I know when costs should be shaved and how. I know when money should be spent and where. I know when process is not working and needs re-engineering. I know process improvement, however small, needs to be constant. I know projects are a part of doing business. I know the importance of their scope. I know the importance of preparation to projects and the importance of their tracking. I know when they need more resourcing. I know when they need to be stopped. I know your people are important. That everyone must contribute to be successful and that everyone has contributed when success comes. I know feedback is critical. I know you need to give it well and you need to take it well. I know how to present to Boards, to Executive, to staff, to the entire organisation. When to be serious, when to entertain but always to make the right point. I know I have made mistakes. I know I have learnt from them. I am thankful for those who have tolerated them from me, I hope I have tolerated them from others.
