About John E. Karlsen
I'm currently in the B.S.N. program at Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to being a student, I work in multiple capacities, including being a research assistant at the VCU School of Nursing working in geriatric research and a patient care technician on the MIICU at VCU Medical Center. My biggest passion in healthcare is improving the quality of life amongst geriatrics living with neurodegenerative conditions through nonmedicinal interventions, with my biggest interest being in Parkinson's disease. I also love working with patients who are critically ill and working with the interdisciplinary team to get them back to their optimal state of health. Above all else, I love working with patients and making a little bit of progress towards discharge each and every day I'm assigned to them, even if that is just helping them get out of bed to a chair for a few hours. After graduation, I hope to continue my education in a biobehavioral research Ph.D. program.
