About John Emerson

During the past 4 years I have been working in editing and publishing projects. My recent projects include writing 150 short texts for a corporate client and editing multi-million-dollar grant applications. From 2009 to 2019 I was the director of the University of Adelaide Press. My small team published around 75 books across 19 research areas which found over readers by September 2018. A wine title won a prestigious French award for best viticulture book. The University of Adelaide Press was featured twice in The Australian’s Higher Ed and in The Advertiser. From 2003 until 2015 I was commissioned to write 3 legal-based books on core aspects of South Australian legal structures – First Among Equals: Chief Justices of South Australia since Federation, A History of the Independent Bar of South Australia and John Jefferson Bray: a Vigilant Life. In between I wrote restaurant reviews, travel features and international presentations. During the 1990s to the early I completed three degrees at Adelaide University in South Australia and one at the Sorbonne-Nouvelle-Paris in Paris. I ended up with a Masters thesis written in French and a PhD in English that investigated colonialism and racism in French and Australian films. I take pride in being a self-starter and maximising evolving resources to learn software and skills, currently chatGPT and Leonardo.AI.
