Background
About John Esposito
I’m a passionate mental health professional with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Scranton (2018) and extensive experience providing therapy across multiple levels of care, both in-person and virtually. I began my career at a psychiatric rehabilitation day program, offering individual and group counseling to clients with severe mental illness. There, I supported individuals in achieving personal goals related to independence, education, employment, and social functioning. Later, I transitioned into the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) space, where I provided short-term counseling, crisis intervention, grief support, and referrals to employees and their families. I worked with clients managing workplace stress, burnout, and major life changes, as well as those mandated by employers to seek counseling. Most recently, I worked in a high-acuity IOP/PHP setting, delivering therapy to clients with complex mental health conditions such as psychosis, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Schizophrenia. In this role, I honed my skills in CBT, DBT, crisis intervention, and risk assessment, and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams including psychiatrists, dietitians, and community health workers to ensure coordinated care. Currently, I serve as a therapist in a virtual IOP program, providing individual and group therapy. I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel empowered to explore challenges and make meaningful changes. My therapeutic style is person-centered, non-directive, and rooted in humanistic values. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and strength-based approaches. I support clients in recognizing unhealthy coping mechanisms, shifting negative thought patterns, building confidence, and focusing on what they can control to improve their emotional well-being and quality of life.
