I am passionate about tackling the problem of the shortage of foster carers because I believe every child and young person should have the care, support and opportunity they need to reach their unique potential.My ‘first career’ in the corporate business world equipped me with many transferable skills and experiences but I always felt there was something else more meaningful out there for me. Volunteering to run a 5-a-side football team with a group of ‘young offenders’ in 2003 was a turning point in my life. Overnight I felt motivated and inspired about working with young people. I quickly learnt that many children in the criminal justice system had been 'in care' and were failed by the 'system' that seeks to protect them. Fast forward to 2024 and I am a qualified Social Worker with a Masters degree in Social Work, Diploma in Leadership and 20 years of experience working with vulnerable children and families. I am passionate about working with children in care and their foster families. Recruiting, preparing, assessing, training, and supporting foster carers is in my job description but its so much more than that. My work is about values, beliefs, networks, consultation, participation and collaboration. I believe in the difference a foster family can make to a child who needs their care, love and nurture. Here on LinkedIn I am looking to connect and collaborate with others that are passionate about championing the work of foster carers and supporting children in care.
