Background

About John Farah

My values are the reason I excelled in school and obtained my B.S. in Biological Sciences at a world class research university. Unfortunately, I know many people are not as fortunate and lack the support they need to overcome adversity. In turn, I have a passion to help young adults receive the mentorship and guidance they deserve to succeed in their academics and life choices. One of my most rewarding and influential experiences is serving as the University High School (UHS) head wrestling coach. As a mentor to high school students of diverse backgrounds and upbringings, I have gained invaluable perspectives on the various struggles students face. At the start of the school year, students of varying passion and wrestling backgrounds join the team. I take it upon myself to respect each of their abilities and turn them into responsible, disciplined, and hardworking athletes. Furthermore, I have been able to help people as a hospital volunteer. My duties as a volunteer range from helping hospital staff sterilize surgical instruments, transport specimens directly from the operating room to pathology, and the most rewarding of all; discharge patients to their families. My close and consistent interactions with nurses, physicians, hospital personnel, and patients has offered me another valuable perspective on life. Hearing about a nurse’s journey to her career in the hospital or comforting a patient’s family member has opened my eyes to the struggles we all face. I have discharged patients of diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and differing family support. I am always disheartened by the fragile condition of our homeless population. Sometimes, patients have no family members to return home with and the hospital arranges a service to bring them home. On a more positive note, I am able to reunite concerned family members with their loved ones. Regardless of a patient’s circumstance, it is immensely rewarding to make a difference in a patient’s hospital stay and offer whatever little relief I can. These experiences have inspired me to expand my devotion to the service of others as a healthcare provider. Ultimately, I believe that my unique perspectives on life have made a sensible person who is thankful for every opportunity I get to learn and grow. My desire to help people has compelled me to pursue a doctorate in pharmacy and become a pharmacist who is the most accessible healthcare provider. I will be able to serve my community free of charge or appointment by recommending over the counter therapies to patients in need of relief.
