About John Folkesson
My interest is in modeling sensor data to aid mobile autonomy. This includes low level estimation of map geometry and robot trajectories. It also includes higher level representation of the world, so called semantic mapping. Higher level models often use techniques from machine learning and artificial intelligence. In very complex situations the challenge is to find ways to use the models to optimize decisions. The types of robots I have worked with are indoor service robots, outdoor rescue robots, autonomous underwater vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, and self driving trucks. Currently the focus is on maritime robots (AUVs) and self driving trucks.
