About John Goffred

I began my culinary journey in June of 2006. I just graduated high school and got a job as a dishwasher at the Corner House restaurant. Which was a local neighborhood restaurant. During my time there I was a dishwasher, a busboy, and a prep cook. In September of 2006, I started college at Brookdale Community College. My first year, I took regular education classes so I could graduate with an Associate’s degree. In September of 2007, I started my culinary classes. In the summer of 2008, I did an internship at my cousin’s Italian restaurant Valeno Grill which was located on Staten Island, New York. I returned for my final year of culinary school in September 2008 and graduated in May of 2009. During this year I was also a weekend cook/personal chef at a Very Special Place which is a group home for people with disabilities. In July of 2009, I began working for Esca restaurant in New York City, which was owned by Mario Batali and the Executive Chef was a James Beard award winning chef named Dave Pasternack. I started on garde manager and worked my way all throughout the hotline. After about 4 years of 80 hour weeks I needed a change. I got hired by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and started there in November of 2013. I’m currently still working there. I have a passion for food like no other. I love creating dishes and plate presentation. I love sharing my knowledge of food with others. I’m organized, focused, determined, disciplined, creative, and a great team player.
