About John Grey

In my decades of publishing experience I have established a reputation as a highly productive, energetic and committed journalist, editor, manager and trainer who achieves the highest standards. In on my own initiative, I created couriermail.com.au and edited it until 2012, building it from the ground up to become Queensland's leading news site and a recognised leader among News Ltd's online editorial properties. I pioneered the News group's masthead-centred approach to online news publishing and worked with national management and interstate News Ltd masthead online editors through formative and difficult times, vigorously defending our sites' and newspapers' editorial integrity and quality. In that time, couriermail.com.au grew from effectively zero traffic to a consistent near 3 million unique browsers and 50-60 million page impressions a month.(Domestic and international figures. Source: Unica/NetInsight) The site was honoured by the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association as Online Newspaper of the Year 2008, and News Destination of the Year 2011 and 2012. I managed multiple redesigns, introduced two different and challenging content management systems for the website, and mentored, taught and led the best news website team in the country. As online editor, I developed digital and social media strategies for News Queensland, training and mentoring journalists along the way. As the editorial lead for commercial projects at APN-ARM, I produced, edited and published content on multiple platforms, including personalised newspapers, co-ordinating of regional editors and newsrooms and liaising with management and clients. As Digital Manager with Queensland Police Media, I advise on social media and digital publishing strategies, manage the police corporate site (police.qld.gov.au) and intranet, and the back end of the police news website myPolice, and investigate, assess and introduce new digital publishing opportunities.
