About John Griffin
I graduated from Rowan University in 2018 with a BS in Physics, a minor in Mathematics and a specialization in photonics. I then attended Lehigh University where I earned a Ph.D. in Physics (January of 2023). My dissertation work was in the Design and Implementation of an Apparatus for Strongly Interacting Fermi Gases. In my dissertation work, I designed and built an apparatus meant to cool Lithium-6 atoms to temperatures on the nano-Kelvin scale. I was responsible in particular for the design and build of the vacuum system, design and build of the optical setup, writing data analysis scripts and the sequencing of the initial cooling stages. I used OSLO, SolidWorks, Python, and many other computer programs in the design process. I utilized optical cooling techniques including Zeeman Slowing, Magneto Optical Trapping, Gray Molasses Cooling and set the stage for Evaporative Cooling. In January of 2023, I exited academia and took a position at AOSense, Inc as a Physicist.
