About John Gross

Honest, driven and a lifelong learner. John Gross is a 3D Character Rigger, who graduated with a 3D Modeling, Art and Animation diploma from BCIT. He has previously finished a 3-year contract as an Infantryman in the Canadian Forces, where he was able to finish top of his class in basic training. He gained a tremendous amount of mental fortitude and developed an unwavering work ethic. However, it was also in the military where John suffered a career changing hip injury during a parachute accident. This caused his career path to alter significantly, being a licensed EMR, and a former general contractor, John was forced to discover a new passion. Which is exactly what happened when he discovered rigging. He loves the trials and tribulations that working in this field brings, along with its dynamic nature, allowing him to constantly learn better and faster ways to get the job done. He has also always been captivated by anatomy, so to be the one that truly brings a character to life is quite fulfilling. John aspires to begin working as a Junior Rigger, eventually moving on to become a Rigging Lead, at a major industry leading film studio. His favorite project in school was a group Unreal project, where they created a video game level centered around a small robot. This was the first time he worked with an animator, which taught him many valuable lessons. John was born in Squamish, BC, although he mainly grew up on Vancouver Island. In his free time, you will either find him at the gym or watching sports. Being a very active person, the hip injury has been a major challenge that he is still overcoming.
