About John Hlavin
I am a PhD student in the Macdonald lab/Shark Research and Conservation (SRC) program of the University of Miami Rosenstiel School where I research community dynamics within the predatory fish guild of Biscayne Bay using stable isotopes and DNA metabarcoding. As a student of the Environmental Science & Policy program of the Abess Center, I am trained in producing policy-relevant research through interdisciplinary methods. Recently I was named a 2024 Guy Harvey Fellow. I received my Bachelor of Science cum laude in Biological Sciences from the University of Notre Dame, where I conducted undergraduate research in aquatic ecology. Additionally, I was a NOAA Hollings Scholar and NESA Galapagos World Explorer.
