About John Hogan

John William Hogan, a Kerryman (South Kerry), is a research fellow and politics lecturer in the College of Business, Technological University Dublin. He is a director of the Business, Society and Sustainability Research Center at the Technological University Dublin. He has served as chair of the Comparative Policy Section of the Midwest Political Science Association in the US. His research interests focus on public policy and global lobbying regulations. He has published in a wide range of international journals on these topics, as well as presenting his findings at a range of conferences in Ireland, Europe, the US and the UK. John is a co-author, with Raj Chari and Gary Murphy, of Regulating Lobbying: A Global Comparison (1st ed. 2010; 2nd ed. 2019); and co-editor of the volumes Policy Analysis in Ireland (2021); Policy Paradigms in Theory and Practice (2015); Irish Business and Society (2011) and Approaches to Qualitative Research – A Guide for Dissertation Students (2009). He and his co-authors have presented their research findings on global lobbying regulations to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform (DPER), and have been consultants to the Government Reform Unit of the DEPR since 2011 - as it has sought to introduce a lobbying regulation law in Ireland. He and his co-authors have also presented their research to the lower house of the Czech Parliament in Prague, to the Political and Constitutional Reform Unit of the UK House of Commons in London, the House of Commons Committee on Standards in Public Office and the Standards, Procedures and Public Appointments Committee of the Scottish Parliament. He has previously taught and worked in the School of Law and Government, DCU, and completed 2 years of postdoctoral research in the Department of Political Science, Trinity College Dublin. He was lead researcher in the government funded project to map global lobbying regulations 2005-2007. A graduate of the School of Law and Government, Dublin City University, John was an IRCHSS research fellow on two occasions: during his MA by research and 2001-2005 during his PhD research. His PhD was supervised by Prof. Robert Elgie and Dr. Gary Murphy.
