About John Hogan

I am an assistant professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My research focuses on the security architecture and policies of the African Union (AU), AU-EU cooperation, postcolonial approaches to international relations theory, and the role of emotions in multilateral policymaking. My teaching expertise is mainly in courses related to IR theory, international security, international organisations and African politics, though I have also taught courses related to research methods, academic skills and political theory. I have coordinated courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and have extensive experience in supervising dissertations up to masters level.
