If I hadn’t become a banker, I would have been a coach. I always wanted to find a way to serve and support others. I ended up following my dad’s example: he was a small-town banker, and I saw the difference he made in our community. I always keep our customers in mind in my work at Huntington. Yes, we have a regional footprint, but we still embody the active community engagement that I saw firsthand at my community bank. As President of the Western Michigan region, I am always focused on ways to develop and display Huntington’s values. It’s my job to lead by example. We have a simple message, and that resonates with people: • make people’s lives better • help businesses thrive • strengthen our community No customer need is too big or too small. When you’re at a local branch and get a call from the bank president checking in on things, that means something. And not just for our customers, but our colleagues as well. Coaching your teams to succeed is just as important so they can demonstrate our values while they serve our community. I love that sense of personal development, and not just at the office. I started learning to play piano about 15 years ago. Back then, I was doing recitals alongside 8-year-olds. Now I play at my church. I admit it was tough going for anyone listening to me practice those first few years. But there’s nothing like sticking with a challenge and finding another way to grow. I am also a competitive age group Triathlete. Physical and mental fitness are important to me. Specialties include: community involvement | strategic leadership | team building
