About John J. Carson

As Senior Advisor to the President of the University of Hartford, Carson brings vast business, development, and economics expertise, honed in the public and private sectors. Carson oversees the University’s government relations and community relations efforts, as well as WWUH 91.3 FM, the University of Hartford's "public alternative radio station". He has served on the University's Athletics Council since and chaired the University's NCAA Certification and the Interim Certification in and in 2005. His tenure at the University of Hartford has coincided with the move of the University out of the financial crunch of the early 1990s into its present era of strong growth and enhanced reputation—the most expansive period in the school’s history, spanning programs and new facilities that include engineering and technology, the visual and performing arts, health sciences and athletics. Specializing in economic development and public policy, his career has also been shaped by service with the Connecticut Policy and Economic Council (president); with Deloitte & Touche (consultant and Connecticut Director of Business Development); and as state commissioner of economic development. In 2011 Carson was elected Lead Director and Chair of the Governance Committee for Farmington Bank, whose Board he joined in early 2010. Carson serves, and has served, on a number of other boards, including TD Banknorth Connecticut (vice chair 2002 - 2007) and on the parent TD Banknorth N.A, Board Risk Committee (2003 - 2007); Ambassador, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center; Bushnell Memorial Community Development Committee; Rideshare and the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology (chair 2004 - 2008). Carson holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts. He earned his B.A. in economics with honors from the University of Hartford. He resides in West Hartford, Connecticut.
