About John Kauffman

Conceiving a great idea is only part of a solution: implementing that idea can be the hardest part. This is especially true when dealing with a tight budget and a quick turn-around time. Or. when faced with numerous ideas from a variety of sources. I have been solving graphic design problems for the past 35 years. as a student, teacher, mechanical artist, illustrator, art director and creative director. I've owned a business and I have worked for others. I’ve worked on large projects and small. and have worked in two dimensions and in three. I’ve designed everything from product catalogs, magazine ads, packaging and products for the Ben Hogan Golf Company. to exhibit graphics, signage and brochures for Williamsburg's Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation (JYF), where I'm currently employed. As JYF's Exhibit Graphics Supervisor, my skills helped prepare a newly reconstructed Jamestown Settlement for the 400th anniversary celebration of the 1607 Jamestown landing. Yorktown Victory Center is the other half of JYF. Since this facility also will be building a new museum in the next few years, my graphics skills will again be employed as this museum undergoes a major facelift. Skills include: Detailed functional knowledge of Creative Suite and QuarkXPress on a Macintosh platform Working knowledge of Microsoft Office on a Macintosh platform Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals (currently, JYF Exhibits, Curatorial, Marketing, Education and Development staff) Graphic design and production for both offset printing and large-format digital printing Ability to design, fabricate and supervise the fabrication and installation of electronic interactives Project management and supervision of staff and vendors Writing specifications for VA State graphics projects
