About John Keating

I have been a classroom teacher for seven years, spending three semesters at The School of Liberal Arts (SOLA) and one semester at the Toronto New School (TNS), as well as five years with the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB). Outside of class time, I focus on extracurricular activities which coincide with my interests: Music, math, engineering, sports of every kind, and the environment. I am keenly interested in the role of technology in education, more specifically: social media, and was responsible for these forms of communication during my time at TNS. I believe that student life is as important to the the development of successful high school students as the courses they take. Students must have the ability to balance academics, citizenship, and social lives in order to be successful after moving on from high school. In this vein, I try to foster a close relationship with all of my students. In the classroom, I believe his students should be able to think critically, and that they must learn to solve problems rather than memorizing the solutions to a finite set of questions. Realizing that reaching this goal takes varying degrees of effort, I am committed to helping students reach their full potential via extra help whenever possible.
