About John Kivelin

As a Marine infantry officer, I spent the last 21 years of my career learning to serve and lead. The Marine Corps has given me both the training and opportunity to work with people of all backgrounds for a greater purpose. It has been my privilege to command Marines, attend and instruct at some of the finest leadership institutions in the world, and contribute as a writer to our professional journal - the Marine Corps Gazette. I am honored to serve in the Marine Corps and grow from my experiences with leaders, peers, and subordinates. In my spare time, I am an avid reader. I am particularly interested in books based in the social sciences or Military history. It is my belief that any industry is based on people and relationships. Understanding intra-personal relationships and dynamics of human interaction has assisted me in creating teams that I will cherish for always. I have contributed to ongoing intellectual discussions of military innovation and look forward to continuing my contribution to the Marine Corps Gazette. The Marine Corps has provided me with astounding opportunities to serve, follow, and lead, and I hope to share this experience with an organization when I transition out of the service.
