Background
About John Koetzner
With my experience as a K-12 librarian for 5 years, a community college library director for nearly 14 years and my current experience as a librarian in a public library for 6 years, I have done the following: Acquisitions for all departments for the main campus and three campus centers. Instructional Librarian – Information Literacy – developed curriculum for CSU/UC transfer course. I have taught face-to-face as well as through Learning Management Systems such as Etudes and Canvas. I worked with the president, faculty, staff, students, and community to develop our 5-year strategic plan, along with developing strategic goals, outcomes, and key performance indicators. I attended monthly Board of Trustee meetings, giving monthly reports of staff activities when I served as Academic Senate President. I worked on several Brown Act committees and posted agendas and minutes to meet Brown Act requirements. In consultation with the campus community and community, I helped design, program, and implement a move to a new square foot library. I also helped with the Information Commons at our Willits and Lake County sites and I weeded the library at our Fort Bragg site to allow more computer station access. Worked with my library IT professionals and other staff to evaluate new ILS which led to migration to Koha, an open-source ILS.(My previous experience was with Sirsi-Dynix Horizon at Santa Rosa City Schools, then Winnebago, and Evergreen with Mendocino College.) After researching library policies around the state, I developed library policies for the Board of Trustees and updated them during my tenure. I also developed a library handbook for students, faculty, and staff. Over the years, I not only worked with managing multiple budgets, including outside grants, I also worked with a bond that Mendocino and Lake Counties passed for the college district. I saw the need and created a Friends of the Mendocino College Library to add revenue for acquisitions and to do special programs such as a literary festival and a regular annual author/speaker series. Later, I became the coordinator and presenter for a Child Development Literacy program that modeled how to teach reading to preschoolers. Finally, I represented the Northwest region of the state for the Council of Chief Librarians and served as Vice-President of the organization, helping negotiate a statewide buy of research databases for all 112 California Community Colleges.
