About John Krzeczkowski

My approach to research, teaching, and pedagogical innovation centers on the theme of getting people off to a strong start. This ‘strong starts’ approach is inspired by my grandmother who, as a public health nurse, established the Niagara Region’s first maternal postpartum depression support group in the late 1970s. Inspired by her legacy of compassion and ingenuity, I have dedicated his career to investigating if programs that support the health of mothers/birthing parents not only improve their health, but also benefit their children and families. Therefore, I have founded and direct the Strong Starts Research Program My research investigates the foundations of social and emotional development and examines how early interventions can optimize the developing brain. This research program bridges theory with application and spans numerous disciplines, including developmental psychology, social development, interpersonal interactions, neurodevelopment, and intervention science. The overall goal of my research is to determine how we can best harness the immense plasticity of the developing brain to prevent mental disorders and optimize the health of families in Canada and beyond. Career Highlights -Earned over 1.4 million dollars in grants, awards and scholarships -Published 18 peer reviewed papers in top journals including The Journal of Psychopathology and Clinical Science, Depression and Anxiety Journal and The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry -Established a network of collaborators across Canada
