Background

About John Lemay

I’ve always enjoyed helping people and creating things that can potentially have a positive impact on them. Early in my collegiate career I knew I wanted to go into a career that I could help people. I thought that I wanted to become a psychologist/family therapist, so I went for a Bachelor's degree in family studies, but tragedy struck early in my senior year. My father passed away, and this made me rethink what I really wanted to do with my life. I considered going to medical school, so I went back to community college to get the few prerequisites out of the way. During this time in my life I started to think about and remember how much I liked math. Then I thought about how I could combine my interest in math with my interest in being a doctor. I did some research and found out about biomedical engineering. So now I knew what field I liked, but I thought about what kind of degree I should get for that. I talked to some of my professors and figured out that I should go for an electrical engineering degree. While working on my electrical engineering degree, I took some biomedical engineering related courses. I realized a big part these courses was signal processing. Besides the biomedical engineering courses that I took, the ones that interested me the most were the signal processing related courses. I found it interesting all the things that I could do with a signal. All based on how I designed my digital or analog filter. How I could both recover a signal that was distorted or distort a signal myself. How I could smooth out data that I gathered based on the type of filter that I used, it could change my results. I found signal processing and the related field of filter design interesting. I also realized that I want to work on biomedical tech, battery tech or power. MATLAB was used extensively, in most all of my courses while attending university. So many projects I worked on were completed using MATLAB. I learned how to program and use an arduino uno. I used this for some of my projects as well. With a tutor's help, I taught myself how to use Cad (PSpice) to further educate and to help myself with my circuits courses. I took a couple programming classes where I learned the basics of C++ and Java. I used Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel extensively to work on school papers, presentations, and projects while in university. I was taught how to use excel in order to complete some of my engineering projects. Experience with MATLAB, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, C++, Java, and Cad (PSpice).
