About John Lian

I am a medical scientist with a background in infectious disease and developmental biology research. I am interested in biotechnology and developing new techniques to combat human disease and illness. My work today focuses on mammalian skeletal and tissue development, maintenance, and aging. I am a strong advocate for improving science communication to the general public in order to make scientific and medical information more accessible and to fight stigmas and discrimination linked to disease and health conditions-During the COVID-19 pandemic, I served as manager of the Boston Asian Community Emergency Relief Fund, which raised over in financial aid for local families and businesses negatively affected by the pandemic.I am a winner of the Harvard Asian American Alumni Alliance VOICES Speech Competition. I was also recognized by the United Nations Works Programme for startup work in the field of medical engineering and filmmaking I did aimed at improving emergency transportation systems in parts of Africa and Asia. In a past life, I was a junior national cycling champion, collegiate rower, and competitive eater. I remain an avid cyclist, rower, and big eater.
