Background

About John Lord

I believe in serving others. Throughout my life I have shown a preference for service over personal gain and I hope that is evident in all I do. As a young person, I participated in Boy Scouts, eventually earning the rank of Eagle Scout. I worked as a Camp Counselor for six years serving my fellow scouts. In my first foray into the professional world I taught Spanish in a rural school district. My students learned the language and culture very well. During my time as a Spanish Teacher, I also coached soccer, sponsored the yearbook, acted as a computer network technician, announced the home football games from the press box, and became the district's first-ever Energy Manager. After 10 years as a teacher, I transitioned into School Administration and successfully served the teachers, staff, students and community of Loudoun County Public Schools as full-time Energy Manager for 15 years. In 2019, the energy management coordinator position became available in Fairfax County Public Schools. I saw the opportunity to serve my local community - even the neighborhood where I have been living for many years. this position is another great opportunity for me to be a good steward of taxpayer funds, a leader of several great teams and support the instructional programs of the tenth largest school district in the United States. In addition to serving the public in my community, I also serve my peer energy professionals and others who share a common interest in energy management and sustainability. I have been involved with the National Capital Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers for many years. In 2015, I was elected Chapter President, a position I enjoyed until turning the chapter over the new President in 2019. Since then, I have served as US Director of Student Chapters for AEE. Most importantly, I thank God for all of His many blessings in my life.
