About John Lyman

I’m a venture capitalist and managing partner of Telescope, where I find and fund breakthrough technologies that shape the future. As a partner at Google Ventures for seven years, I had the privilege of backing industry transformers like StockX, Toast, and Podium—companies that revolutionized their markets. During my earlier years at Google, I built bridges between Silicon Valley giants and emerging talent, managing strategic partnerships with Y Combinator and Techstars that launched countless success stories. My career began in Washington D.C. I helped build both the Center for American Progress and Clinton Global Initiative—organizations that continue to drive meaningful policy change to this day. A Georgetown government graduate with a UC-Berkeley MPP, I'm also passionate about civic innovation. I’m a fellow at the Abundance Network and on the board of the Oakland Fund for Public Innovation. Outside of the office, you'll find me coaching youth basketball, hosting family game nights, cheering for the Utah Jazz, and playing padel, my new favorite racquet sport.
