About John MacKinnon

John Mackinnon has held a number of executive and strategic positions in the Canadian nuclear industry. John has 30 years experience in the nuclear industry (8 years working directly for a utility), and 20 years in senior management/executive roles. Most recently for approximately 4 years with Kinectrics, he held a number of positions with responsibility for Organisational Quality, Human Performance and improvements and, Project Management, and as SVP for Safety and Engineering, with responsibility for Engineering Design and Projects and Safety Analysis in Canada and Europe/Asia. Previously as President, Nuclear Americas, he was responsible for Amec Foster Wheeler’s nuclear operations in the Americas, with greater than 600 staff spread across more than 15 locations in Canada and the United States. The organization supported the majority of the nuclear utilities in North America and a number in Europe and Asia in areas of expertise that include operational and on-site support, engineering and safety analysis, licensing, design, and program/project management. Upon retirement in March 2022 he has been appointed Executive Consultant – Organizational Development and Change, reporting to the CEO. The role involves mentoring high potential staff in the company, guidance to the Graduate Trainee program and developing and driving targeted improvement plans and change management as needed within the organization. John has a passion for activities supporting the development of young graduates, such as the formation of his organization's Graduate Trainee Program, and participation on the UNENE Board for more than 10 years.
