About John MacLean

I am currently undergoing a career change. Having worked in hospitality as a chef over a 15 year career, I decided it was time for something different. I really liked the idea of getting into the tech industry. Computers and tech has always been a hobby of mine and it felt like something I could get very passionate about. I took a few free online coding courses and quickly realised this was what I wanted to do. I loved the buzz you could get from something as simple as printing "Hello World" on the screen. The next step was to get the necessary training to get me started. I considered a computer science degree to begin with, but I finally decided to go with CodeClan. A 16 week coding bootcamp with over 800 hours of coding. During which I learnt 3 scripting languages, how to use multiple web frameworks including React and many other skills needed to become a software developer. The course was intensive, but I think my previous work experience helped me a lot with the pressure. In the end the effort was worth it. I gained a vast amount of new skills and knowledge of how many transferable skills I also have. Having recently graduated and looking back I'm proud of how far I have come. Now it's time for the next steps in my career change I'm excited to see where it takes me.
