Background
About John Marier
I have spent the majority of my career working in the hospitality industry; where I have pursued culinary arts, front-of-the-house guest service, restaurant management, and working for the Washington State Department of Agriculture in their grain inspection program. My culinary experience includes an associate's degree from Bellingham Technical College; where I learned the fundamentals of cooking techniques, food safety, regional/international cuisines, flavors, and catering. In addition, to having accredited certification from the American Culinary Federation as a sous chef & The National Restaurant Association as a food safety manager. To broaden my skills in the hospitality industry, I have a bachelor's degree in hospitality management from South Seattle College. During that time, I was elected by my peers Student Chapter President of The Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals; allowing me to raise funds for student activities and build relations within the Greater Puget Sound area as well as across the country. My management skills were developed while I was the restaurant supervisor for Basil's Kitchen, which was owned by the DOW Hotel Company and located inside the Tukwila Embassy Suites. At Basil's Kitchen, I was involved with the daily operations of the restaurant and hotel. My duties included; directing staff to provide excellent gest service, scheduling, inventory management, food & beverage cost controls, dining room/bar/kitchen maintenance, coordinate reservations, menu development, implement SOP's, analyze profit/loss statements, interview/hire/train new applicants, oversee banquets, and manage online promotions. My most recent experience is within the Washington State Department of Agriculture grain inspection program. As an employee of the WSDA, I am currently licensed and proficient as a grain sampler, mycotoxin lab technician, commodity weigher, and marine vessel examiner. These duties require the utmost integrity, judgement, critical thinking, and analytical skills to ensure our obligation to grain export facilities in the Southwest Washington Region and their contracts for bulk marine vessel load orders.
