About John Martens

I have worked 38 years as a nurse. My first 10 years as an Associate Degree RN I worked in several specialties, which included, Medical Surgical, Head and Neck Surgery, Neurology, Hemodialysis and finally Alcohol and Drug Treatment. I fell in love with being a nurse when I worked with chronically ill patients. I had thought I wanted to be a nurse anesthetist, but I ended up becoming a Nurse Practitioner because my need for more education won out over my need for a higher salary. My desire to work in Mental Health was driven by my desire to have psychotherapeutic interactions with my patients. I have significant experience in facilitating individual and group psychotherapy. I excel at public speaking, have participated in continuing education for nurses, social workers and alcohol and drug abuse counselors. I have written two books. My first book, The Truth About Feelings is about a proposed framework called Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. My second book, Emotional Intimacy, is a self-help book about the difference between feelings and emotions and how to act out emotions through spiritual principles.
