About John McCarthy

John is the Director for Innovation and Technical Services at Dublin Bus. Responsible for leading the IT, PMO and Technology Development functions within Dublin Bus, it’s a hugely exciting time to be working with Irelands largest Transport provider. Working on Next Generation Ticketing, Automated Vehicle Location and Electrification of the Bus Network, John looks to leverage data and emerging technologies to meet the needs of our customers and communities. Previously, John was responsible for driving and supporting client based engagement around a suite of emerging technology activities within Arup, addressing sustainable digital transformation, data insight for client led services and bridging the gap between current and emerging technologies. Prior to this, I was head of discipline with Atkins for Emerging Mobility. I have also been fortunate to have worked with Transport for London for many years, leading their Smart/Future cities activity including analytics and data driven insight I have been an invited expert witness to the House of Lords, appeared on BBC's Breakfast TV show as well as Five live and have written a number of articles for both the Guardian and Telegraph. Publications in over 27 peer reviewed Journals and Conferences, a member of a number of ITS Steering Groups and EU programs, and a winner of a number of awards including the Ireland-Newfoundland Programme for International Development and a Marie Curie training Fellowship. Highly motivated and ambitious, with significant experience in Intelligent Mobility, IT transformation, Big Data, Analytics, Engineering and telecoms operations, expertise in the transportation and ITS sector and over 20 years commercial experience, across the public, private and academic sectors.
