About John McCoy

I am a Data Scientist with a background in chemical engineering and an interest in solving problems related to physical systems using computational and data-based approaches. I have five years of experience in industry as a data scientist, and three and a half years of operational and engineering experience in the petrochemical industry. I have nine years of academic research experience in fundamental reactor modelling and simulation, and machine learning methods and applications for the minerals and chemical process industries. I am proficient in the data science Python stack (having worked extensively with NumPy, pandas, polars, spark, numpyro, and PyTorch), and have experience with MATLAB, R, Git, Docker, Streamlit and SQL. I have experience leading technical and project teams, and mentoring junior and senior colleagues. I have strong oral and written communication skills, adapt quickly to new environments and domains, work well individually or in a team, and am highly self-motivated.
