About John Middleton

I am the Head, Worldwide Airport Slots for the International Air Transport Association (IATA), based in Geneva, Switzerland. My team and I work with the airlines, coordinators, and airports on the Worldwide Airport Slot Board to update and publish the Worldwide Airport Slot Guidelines (WASG). We strongly advocate for the continued global adoption of the WASG by regulators, as the single global industry standard for the allocation of slots and the facilitation of schedules. We also organize the twice-per-year IATA Slots Conference, a global gathering of stakeholders which plays a vital role in the allocation process. I was previously Assistant Director, Legal Services at IATA, working with the slots team from the legal side in preparing responses to consultations, reviewing the impact of bankruptcy and other legal issues on slot allocation, and attending the IATA Slot Conference and presenting on legal issues impacting the slots world. I also was IATA's specialist bankruptcy counsel and the lawyer responsible for advising the Passenger Agency Conference, which manages our Billing and Settlement Plans. Prior to joining IATA, I was an associate with the bankruptcy and restructuring group at Haynes and Boone, LLP in Dallas, Texas. I have spoken and written on a variety of aviation topics, including presentations on competition law and slots coordination in Brasília, Lisbon, Washington D.C, Vancouver, and New York, and airline bankruptcies and IATA’s role in these proceedings in Brussels, Bangkok, London, and Paris. I am a graduate of Baylor University in Texas, where I earned both my J.D. and B.A, each magna cum laude.
