About John Monson

Sales & Marketing, Funding Development professional with a proven track record of success in the ski, tourism, sports, special events, municipal and parks & recreation industries. Upon graduating from CU-Boulder I headed west to work for Squaw Valley USA, then returned to Colorado to help United (Airlines) Vacations promote and sell packages to the 25 ski resorts they service. I then moved to Copper Mountain, where I focused on tour & travel sales. After a few years of success in that role I moved over to parent company Intrawest's corporate office where I served as director of leisure sales and a member of the central sales team, helping to grow numbers at Intrawest's 13 resorts. Earned my MBA in marketing and went to work for the Vail Recreation District running all marketing and PR. We then moved to Truckee, CA where I was DOSM at Sugar Bowl Resort and Royal Gorge XC for 8 years, while also serving on the board of directors for the Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District. In March of 2016, I returned to Colorado as Director of Sales and Marketing with Copper Mountain Resort. In 2019 I returned to my hometown of Omaha, NE, where I served as Chief Advancement Officer with the YMCA of Greater Omaha. In 2021 I returned to Frisco, where I served as Director of Corporate Relations for Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology, a nonprofit organization convening scientific conferences at ski resort venues across North America and beyond. In 2024, I joined SOS Outreach as VP of Development, running with the marketing and fundraising teams to deliver underserved youth with valuable life skills learned through mentor-based skiing, snowboarding and access to the outdoors.
