About John Northon

Emergency management professional and military veteran with 29 years of experience in crisis management, disaster operations, strategic planning, training & exercises, security operations, employee safety, nuclear weapon security, and law enforcement as a career USAF Officer in the Security Forces (military police) career field. I have spent the last nine years in Emergency Management both as a volunteer with Team Rubicon and full time with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. In my last position as the Deputy State Coordinator, Disaster Services Bureau, I led a team of roughly 70 Emergency Management professionals in seven geographic regions providing disaster services to 139 local EM programs and 110 Executive Branch State Agencies. My responsibilities also included disaster logistics, the VDEM Hazardous Materials Program, Radiological Emergency Preparedness, and Special Operations (wilderness search and rescue, water rescue, technical rescue and communications). I have directly supervised and mentored over 100 personnel throughout my career. I have a wide range of experience to include leading security assessment teams, writing nuclear security policy, briefing top military executives and US Ambassadors and commanding three security forces squadrons (security director/chief of police) of 100, 250 and 480 military and civilian personnel. I have a strong background in training and developing employees, determining training and resource needs and forecasting to meet those needs. I have managed organizational budgets and maintained accountability of millions of dollars in equipment, vehicles and resources. My objective is to utilize my proven track record of success, leadership experience, integrity, teamwork and education to continue a career of service.
