About John Okeefe
I am a theologian, documentary filmmaker and college professor. I am especially interested in environmental theology, the relationship of humans to land, and the intersection of theology and the creative process. As a filmmaker, I seek to give visual expression to the theological imagination. I have been involved in a number of collaborative projects that cross academic boundaries. I am co-founder of the Backpack Journalism project, a social justice filmmaking initiative at Creighton University. I also worked closely with colleagues from the departments of Biology and Communication Studies on an interdisciplinary study of the Sandhills prairie in western Nebraska. For many years I ran a popular podcast called Catholic Comments with then colleague Wendy M. Wright. All 559 episodes of that podcast are archived at Creighton university. I also have significant experience in academic administration. I have been Chair of the Departments of Theology, English, and Philosophy. I have a life-long fascination with technology, and am a bit of a tech nerd. My partner says she lives with a personal help desk.
