About John P. Edwards

I am a pastoral theologian, spiritual companion, mentor and higher education leader dedicated to fostering young adult and adult spirituality through comprehensive student advisement, vocational discernment, and spiritual guidance. As Director of the Center for Residential Ministry at Villanova University, I work with lay and ordained ministers, graduate students, and theology faculty to design transformative retreats, workshops, and courses that engage individuals at every stage of their faith journey. My leadership style is grounded in mutually supportive interpersonal relationships, attentiveness to the deep structures shaping the systems in which we live, and practical strategic thinking. Whether guiding graduate students through culturally sensitive ministry formation or collaborating with campus partners to promote holistic well-being, I emphasize theological depth and reflective practice within real-world contexts. Drawing on my background in systematic theology, I ensure each initiative addresses the needs of the communities impacted, fosters outreach, and promotes inclusivity. Above all, I aspire to create environments where individuals discern their vocations, discover their gifts, and apply them meaningfully toward the building up of the common good. By combining pastoral care with innovative programming, I nurture a culture of belonging that appreciates interdependence as a strength, not a limitation.
