About John-Paul Doherty
I am a Chartered Civil Engineer with over 18 years’ experience working in the fields of highway and traffic engineering as well as being a qualified Road Safety Auditor. I have worked for Atkins since graduating from Durham University in the summer of 2002. My initial experience was on the Highways Agency Area 10 Managing Agent Contract where I gained a grounding in highway design as well as a thorough understanding of the challenges of operations and maintenance. Over the last 10 years my focus has been on Operational Safety. I have played a key role in a number of high profile research, policy review and standard development projects. I am currently the Operational Safety Lead for the Jacobs/Atkins Smart Motorway team as well as leading on Operational Safety on a number of other UK schemes. I am the Atkins UK Technical Authority for Operational Safety and chair of our technical group in this area. I am also a graduate of the Highways England Roads Academy (Cohort 8).
