About John Pfeiffer

ICF Consulting • Kinetik Energy Solutions: President (Home Performance Consultant) • BPCA-NY: former President (Building Performance Contractors Association • Educator: BPI Certifications and Lighting Design Currently working at ICF in the utility arena where my responsibility is working with Central Hudson Gas & Electric utility on natural gas and heat pump projects. I’m very interested in what I call the Building Performance "Holy Trinity": the Envelope Father, Solar Son, and Holy Heat Pump. This integrated triad of building envelope improvements (insulation + air-sealing), renewable energy sources such as solar PV, combined with a heat pump heating & cooling system is a modern solution to minimizing and eventually eliminating dependence on fossil fuels, reducing greenhouse gases, and helping realize New York’s REV (Reforming the Energy Vision). I'm working to be part of the energy revolution. I started Kinetik Energy Solutions in 2009 and then joined Sigma-Tremblay in 2012 to bring my insulation business and combine it with their HVAC business to be able to offer comprehensive solutions to home owners. In Spring 2018 I joined Malcarne Contracting. I was elected as President of the BPCA in May 2017 and finished my term. Additionally, I've taught numerous BPI Building Analyst and Envelope Professional courses and was a BPI Super Proctor. I've also taught graduate & undergrad lighting design at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to home performance I have 10 years in high-end lighting design working for firms in NYC and Barcelona. These varied experiences have given me the ability to apply a multi-disciplinary, integrative thinking approach to my work. I enjoy being in a career that allows for creativity, analysis and utilizes project management skills.
