About John Phong

My commitment to every project is shown through my dedication to safety and sound project management principles. The combination of my public and private sector experiences equip me with a clear understanding of the roles, responsibilities and challenges encountered in owner-contractor-consultant partnerships. I began my professional career in the consulting industry and my first major role was to carry out resident engineering duties for the construction of the 23rd Avenue and Gateway Boulevard interchange for two years. That role allowed me to see the practical problems of engineering design and how it affects construction work first hand. I finished the project with a greater appreciation and awareness of good design practices and how it relates to constructability. My passion for design and bridge engineering guided me to work on various design projects as a structural engineer. My interest in project management led me to shift my career into the construction industry, in particular, with general contractors. This change in my career path really expanded my knowledge and skills in scheduling, cost control, quality, safety and contract management. These opportunities have allowed me to grow my project management skills steadily into someone who can handle many roles as a manager of projects within the City of Edmonton and allow me to make a worthy contribution to each opportunity that I encounter.
