About John Pierce

John Pierce BSc MSc MBA MIT(AIIM) MCIM CEng FIEI FICS Can grasp and communicate complex concepts; delivers results across a wide spectrum of challenges. Now some years into retirement from paid employment, John is a director of The Heritage Council and the Irish Peatland Conservation Council (IPCC) and a member of the management committee of The Charitable Infirmary Charitable Trust, the oldest, continuous, active charity in Ireland. He chaired An Taisce - The National Trust for Ireland from 2018-2019. He is an examiner for the Chartered Engineer title at Engineers Ireland. John led Fujitsu's global portfolio and references teams until his retirement in February 2017; before that he led marketing operations in Western Europe, Middle East, Africa and India. For many years he led knowledge management and community development, supporting the company's globalisation imperative. He deployed lean thinking in the group marketing function; was European marketing director for Fujitsu Services and delivered a hugely successful group-wide thought-leadership programme. Previously marketing director for Fujitsu Services in Ireland, he secured the location of ICL's B2B marketplace and its part-funding by the Irish government, and built marketplace.ie for ESAT (BT). He was previously a consultant, salesman and account manager, project manager, pre-sales and technical support expert. He even did a bit of dump-cracking! John was chairman of the Irish Internet Association (IIA), the e-Commerce Association of Ireland (ECAI), and the OU MBA Association. He sat on the OUBS Advisory Board and was a director of the Irish Computer Society (ICS), the Irish Unix Users Group (IUUG) and Glockenspiel Limited, which developed software tools. He chaired the Wexford information society initiative, WINC, until January 2015 and was a member of CEN and ISO working groups on innovation management. He lectured on knowledge management and marketing and was a developmental tester for the Open University Business School MBA module on Knowledge Management. John has a BSc and MSc from UCD and an MBA from the Open University. He was awarded a Master of IT by AIIM, is a chartered engineer and a fellow of Engineers Ireland, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a fellow of the Irish Computer Society.
