About John Ranney

John Ranney is the President of Freedom Clinic Toronto, a thriving and expanding clinic specializing in Trichology, Scalp Health, Hair Loss Treatments, and Medical Aesthetics in Toronto, Ontario. A Certified Trichologist with the International Association of Trichologists (I.A.T.) and a proud member of the World Trichology Society (W.T.S.), John is recognized globally for his leadership and innovation in the hair loss industry. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Toronto and has received numerous certifications and awards for his contributions to the field. John successfully completed Dr. Jeffrey Donovan’s inaugural Evidence-Based Hair Fellowship (EBHF), strengthening his expertise in clinical diagnosis, research, and evidence-driven hair loss solutions. He is also a member of the American Hair Loss Council (AHLC) and a frequent contributor to The Link Magazine. His thought leadership has led to multiple invitations as a speaker at International Association of Trichologists (IAT) conferences worldwide. As an innovator, John developed a groundbreaking method to quantify the number of grafts available for hair transplantation from the donor area, achieving a 95% accuracy rate. This study was presented at the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) and continues to be implemented in his patient consultations. John was among the first hair loss practitioners to introduce Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) as a treatment solution in his practice. Today, he is a Master SMP Trainer, offering advanced Scalp Micropigmentation training through Freedom Clinic Toronto. In addition, John has expanded his clinic by creating his own line of evidence-based hair restoration products—FREEDOM Medical— widely respected for their scientific foundation and effectiveness. John has a strong global presence in the hair loss community and engages a large audience on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, where he shares expert insights, patient education, and solutions for hair loss and scalp conditions. Outside of his professional achievements, John is passionate about giving back. He lead a fundraising campaign supporting The Hands of Hope Children’s School in Limuru, Kenya, helping provide rent subsidies, food, water, school supplies, and teacher support. On a personal note, John is a multi-instrumentalist, canoeist, and nature enthusiast. He enjoys gardening, golf, fishing, birdwatching, snorkeling, sailing, hiking, and biking—living a life that reflects balance, creativity, and connection with the outdoors.
