About John Rhymes

A recent Master of Arts graduate from Dalhousie University's Department of Philosophy specializing in Ethics in Science and Technology with over 14 months of experience in academia and higher education. I have fulfilled roles in teaching, editing, evaluating/merit-review, researching, and administration at both the collegiate and university levels. I am seeking the opportunity to apply the skills and technical knowledge I have acquired during my training as a philosopher specializing in ethics in science and technology—analytical aptitude, critical thought, moral and rational reasoning, among others—to the refinement and development of programs, policies, and procedures pertaining to the delivery of scientific and technological initiatives. My research explores the intersection of relational autonomy theory, ethics in artificial intelligence and digital technologies, feminism, and philosophy of attention. In short, I argue that the architecture of recommendation-based social media interfaces interferes with an epistemic agent's capacity to become autonomous with respect to beliefs acquired online. Further research has been conducted on AI's role in the distribution and uptake of misinformation and harmful information on social media platforms.
