About John Rustige

My current responsibility involves reviewing the design of industrial wastewater treatment systems to 1) make sure they comply with Minnesota regulations, 2) to determine that designs will properly treat wastewater so that the uses of Minnesota's waters are protected, and 3) that these systems are reliable. These reviews are conducted prior to issuance of National Permit Discharge Elimination Permits. With each project I bring a sound philosophy of making sure that important economic development can happen in a way that is environmentally responsible. This involves good engineering practice and judgement and the ability to build good and trusting relationships with the regulated community. I believe that state employees should serve as a resource for citizens, environmental consulting firms, engineering firms, industry, and environmental advocacy groups. This often requires meaningful discussions and the explanation of technical issues to non-technical people and decision-makers. Areas of technical experience include: Wastewater Engineering, Antidegradation Principles, Rulemaking, Development of Air Pollution State Implementation Plans, Air Pollution Permitting, Stakeholder Processes, and Presentations.
