About John Severson

Mission: To provide the leadership, programs, and services which complement and enhance the efforts of constituent school districts in extending educational opportunities to all students. I am currently serving my first year as the superintendent of Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. I am a proactive, results-oriented, pleasantly assertive professional administrator and educator who has demonstrated success in collaboratively leading others in establishing positive learning environments and programming for a variety of ages, communities, learning styles, and behavioral needs. Historically, I have led schools, in partnership with community members and parents, to develop and implement programs that increase academic achievement, recognizing that students of the future will need to be highly skilled, cooperative, self-sufficient, and responsible adults. I also understand that the work of establishing a vision of being the very best must be shared by involving all members of the organization and community. I have a proven record in building the necessary teams for success in a wide-range of educational environments, including multicultural urban, suburban, and rural schools. My belief is that all students can succeed, and throughout my career, I have built the necessary programs, supports, relationships and partnerships to provide the very best learning environment for my students.
