About John Sheehan

Lifelong IT Professional. First started in computers at the age of 8, I was introduced to the Tandy line of computers. Without storage on my first computer, I was driven to learn how to program in Basic to operate the computer. Each time I turned it off then back on, I had to re-write code for whatever task I wanted to accomplish that day. This started me on a path of not just operating computers, but delving into their inner workings. I learned of telecommunication and the internet through running my own multi-line BBS system in the late 80's and early 90's. I programmed BBS software on OS-9 using BASIC09 and then porting to Pascal. From those humble beginnings, I learned many high level languages along with 6809 and 8088 Assembly language. While systems program was my passion, I started my work career first as a computer tech that quickly turned into business programming and analysis. During this time, I became involved with a lot of Systems and Network Administration. I worked a lot with different UNIX and Linux systems as well as Novell Netware. As the IT world transitioned into Windows Server operating systems, I took the lead there. When the world again transitioned to virtual, I became involved with VMWare hyper visors, using their earliest server offerings of GSX. Being lucky enough to work at the County level of Local Government, I've been able to run diverse projects, ranging from designing and implementing core, distribution and access layer networking, to deploying a Disaster Recovery site using VMWare and Veeam. My technical skills run a diverse gamut of IT related technologies including SAN, Network and Server Administration. I am now an IT Infrastructure Manager where I lead a team that provides everything from Virtual Desktop services, to 911 IT related services to our Unified Communication Center. It's a very rewarding position to be able to help others with everything I've learned through my successes and failures.
