Background

About John Sheridan

I am fortunate to be married to my wife Joanne of 30 years, and profoundly blessed by our four wonderful children. I am also blessed to do a craft I love. I get to play every day. Working on Historic structures gives you a window into the past. I often say to co workers, friends,"We Are Bathing in the sweat of our forefathers". Simply meaning that, we are connected to their sweat and hard work that happened many years ago. I am grateful to be a Union Carpenter, local 339 recently in the last year and a half. I often wonder how many of the buildings we build today will still be standing 200 years from now? Will future generations see the value in preserving buildings void of mans hand? I love to convert old timber frame structures into modern livable homes with Super insulation, Modern appliances, and environmentally friendly finishes. I also love to preserve history in structures, maintaining the craftsmanship and history for future generations to appreciate and learn from. After many years building luxury homes I was often frustrated how my "work of art" was damaged once people moved in. For instance they would leave scuff marks on the freshly painted stair risers, and Baseboard. What I love the most about barn homes is that Wear and Tear simply makes them more beautiful. If you drop a dish and it make a dent in the hardwood floors it simply makes them have more character. If a nail on the exterior rusts or the siding bleeds it just looks more like a barn. A nick in the wood is evidence that Man was here. I sometimes wish every ding or dent could talk to us and tell us how it happened. Each Barn, as well as the historical structure, has a story to tell. has a story to tell, much like people. I agree that it would be nice if every old building could be encased in Glass and preserved as a museum piece. However This is not practical. It is my passion to continue learning from young and old ways t grow, to better my trade and my soul.
