About John Shoemaker

After completing my BA at Hanover College, MBA at Indiana University Kelley Business School and PhD work in business and government relationships at Indiana, I embarked on a 40-year career in business that is continuing. My goal has been to build a broad-based and multifunctional background that allows me to add value in successively more senior general management positions. I have been fortunate enough to serve in numerous leadership roles including, finance, engineering, marketing, sales, program management, Operations and eventually leading the general management of large organizations and businesses. Since retiring from my last full-time position at Sun Microsystems, I have served on public and private corporate boards of varying sized companies. I have become more involved with a non-profit and philanthropic organizations and have been able to devote more time to mentoring executives and consulting with people doing start ups. Examples of volunteer work are: Indiana University: Shoemaker Innovation Center, Shoebox Incubator; Advisor to Luddy College of Informatics, Computer Science and Engineering; Advior to Kelley Business School; IU Foundation Trustee; Hanover College Shoebos Activity Center and restaurant; Business Scholars Program; Stanford International Graduate Student mentoring; UCSF Prostate Cancer Outreach: UCSF stem cell research; UCSF Peter Carroll Innovation Fund; El Camino Hospital Mental Health Campaign to build new hospital building and fund programs; etc. Time and travel with my wife, two daughters, four grandchildren, gardening, golf, reading and sports "fan" time are now balancing my retirement days along with staying on top of my game in the field of finance, technology and entrepreneurship interests.
